Morowali, 29 June 2026 – PT QMB New Energy Materials has received the Green Leadership Award at the 2026 Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 26 June. The award recognizes the company's Sulfuric Acid Waste Heat Cogeneration for Low-Carbon Industry project, which integrates energy efficiency and carbon reduction into industrial production.

Organized annually by Enterprise Asia since 2011, the AREA Awards recognize organizations across Asia that demonstrate outstanding achievements in sustainability, environmental stewardship, green innovation, and responsible business practices.

QMB received the award for implementing an advanced Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) system that captures waste heat generated during sulfuric acid production and converts it into electricity for on-site use. By recovering and reusing thermal energy, the project improves energy efficiency while reducing reliance on conventional power sources.

The cogeneration facility is equipped with two steam turbine generators with a combined installed capacity of 120 MW, supporting QMB's efforts to build a more efficient and low-carbon energy system while enhancing operational reliability.

In 2025, the waste heat cogeneration system generated approximately 131 million kWh of electricity, supplying around 24.1% of the QMB Industrial Park's total electricity demand. During the same period, the project reduced greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e) and lowered carbon emission intensity per tonne of Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) by 26.71% compared with the previous year.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the project has also improved operational efficiency through more effective energy utilisation and resource optimisation, supporting QMB's broader commitment to circular economy principles and sustainable industrial development.

As an integrated new energy materials producer, QMB develops a value chain spanning laterite nickel processing through to battery materials production. The company continues to invest in technological innovation to support the global transition towards clean energy and electric mobility.

As part of its climate governance framework, QMB conducts annual greenhouse gas verification and product carbon footprint assessments in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018 and ISO 14067. These assessments are independently verified by accredited third-party organisations to ensure the accuracy, transparency, and credibility of the company's environmental data.

Receiving the 2026 AREA Green Leadership Award reflects international recognition of QMB's commitment to green innovation and sustainable industrial development.
