On May 3rd to 4th, Professor Ganefri, Chairman of the National University President Council of Indonesia (referred to as “MRPTNI”), along with Professor Rina Indiastuti, Secretary - General and 16 renowned university presidents from five major islands of Indonesia, visited the GEM Indonesia - QMB Industrial Park for exchange. And officially held a meeting discussing new energy industries, nickel resources, science and advanced technology, and culture. Emphasizing that the fourth phase of joint training programs has expanded from metallurgical engineering to metallurgy engineering and new energy materials science, transportation engineering (focus on high-speed rail), and international trade (focus on non-ferrous metal trade), the three main majors along with new students admissions policies.
On March 27, 2024, Chairman XuKaihua visited the International Training Center in China, to observe the conditions and daily life of the Learning Camp from Third Batch of the International Master's Program involving Indonesia and China.
On February 28th, 2024, the second cohort of the CMMAI-GEM-CSU joint master's program went to QMB for a two year laboratory academic training.
On the afternoon of December 21st, 2023, Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of the GEM Group, visited Central South University (CSU) to meet with the joint master's program in Metallurgical and Materials Science Engineering. He delivered a lecture entirely in English titled "Dance with nickel and move towards a green future!" to the Indonesian students and personally distributed scarves and other gifts to everyone.
On November 6th, 2023, the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Establishing the “Tiongkok-Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory for New Energy Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Technology” among GEM-ITB-CSU along with the signing of the GEM-ITB Scholarship Donation Agreement, was held at the ITB in Indonesia with great solemnity.
On the morning of October 5th, 2023, The opening ceremony of the Chinese Training Mandarin Language Phase 1, a joint initiative between GEM-CSU-Indonesian Government to cultivate a master’s program in metallurgical engineering, was held at the International Training Center in GEM, Jingmen Area.
On September 26th, 2023, Chairman Xu Kaihua with the first and second cohorts of the CMMAI-GEM-CSU joint master’s program jointly celebrated Minister Luhut’s Birthday.
On September 9th, 2023, Professor Guo Xueyi, Vice President of Central South University, led a delegation to visit QMB for guidance. The visit aimed to further deepen the cooperation between both parties and promote the joint cultivation of outstanding science and technology as well as outstanding talents.
From August 9th to 10th 2023, the second cohort of the joint master's program in Metallurgical Engineering, sponsored by the CMMAI-GEM-CSU visited the GEM, Jingmen Area.

On 25 February 2023, the second batch of the “CMMAI-GEM-CSU Joint International Metallurgical Engineering Master Training Program" students officially enter the university campus.
From January 25th to February 1st, 2023, the third cohort of the CMMAI-GEM-CSU joint master's program in Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering International Class visited GEM for a study tour.

On 14 October 2019, the opening ceremony of the first " CMMAI-GEM-CSU Joint International Metallurgical Engineering Master Training Program" was held at CSU.
CMMAI-GEM-CSU Joint International Metallurgical Engineering Master Training Program was proposed by GEM and CSU in January 2019, in which this program is led by CMMAl, subsidized by GEM and taught by CSU. The aim of this program is to cultivate engineering masters in the field of metallurgical engineering, and provide talent support for the efficient use of mining resources and the development of new energy materials in Indonesia.
This project has completed the training of 20 masters of metallurgical engineering in the first batch and currently the second batch of the project is being launched to train 30 masters of metallurgical engineering. In the future, we will promote the training mode of "1+N”, gradually developing into "master to doctorate" multi-level training mode, and train 1000 high-level senior technical talents for the development of mining engineering and new energy materials in Indonesia, building a highlight project of scientific and cultural exchanges between China and Indonesia.
The School of Metallurgy and Environment of Central South University has 174 faculty members, including 153 full-time teachers, 86 professors (2 first-class professors, 20 second-class professors, and 15 third-class professors), and 56 associate professors. There are 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including 4 part-time professors), 5 "Changjiang scholars", 3 "National Outstanding Youth", 8 "Ten Thousand Plan" , 17 "Four Youth Talents", 11 "Trans/New Century Talents" of the Ministry of Education, and 4 "Furong Scholars".
Chai Liyuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is an expert in metallurgical environmental engineering. He is currently the Vice President of Central South University, Professor at the School of Metallurgy and Environment, Director of the National Heavy Metal Pollution Prevention Engineering Technology Research Center, and Director of the Professional Committee of Comprehensive Utilization of Non-ferrous Metallurgical Resources of China Non-ferrous Metals Society, and Chinese Chairman of the International Conference on Resource Recycling Technology in East Asia.
Guo Xueyi is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Central South University, and a special professor of "Changjiang Scholar" at the Ministry of Education. He is the recipient of the special allowance of the State Council, a member of the Discipline Review Group of the State Council, a member of the National "Hundred Million Talents Project", and a national young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions. He is currently the Vice President of Central South University, Director of the Institute of Resource Recycling, Director of the Heavy Metals Academic Committee of the Chinese Society for Non-ferrous Metals, and Vice Chairman of the Environmental Materials Branch of the Chinese Society for Materials Research.
Zhao Zhongwei is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Central South University, and a special professor of "Changjiang Scholar" at the Ministry of Education. His research team won the "2011 First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress" for the project "Key Technology for Deep Development and Application of Hard-to-Metallize Tungsten Resources". The project has provided technical support for the utilization of tungsten resources in China; the product performance has reached the international advanced level, meeting the needs of China's national economy, contributing to the progress of metallurgical science and technology and national economic construction in China.
Xu Kaihua, the founder of GEM, is an early researcher of recycling technology in China and a pioneer of the urban mining industry, the initiator of the green concept of "limited resources, unlimited recycling", a part-time professor of Central South University and the Bandung Institute of Technology, the executive director of the National Engineering Technology Research Center of Electronic Waste Recycling. He is a national consulting expert in the field of circular economy and an industry consultant of Shenzhen Stock Exchange. With nearly 40 years of experience in waste recycling research and industrialization, he holds more than 500 core patents in the field of waste recycling and new energy materials manufacturing leads the development of more than 100 industry standards and has won more than 10 provincial and ministerial first-class awards for scientific and technological progress and 2 national scientific and technological progress awards (2010, 2018).
On the recommendation of the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment, the Indonesian government, CSU, and GEM jointly interviewed and selected outstanding students in Jakarta, Indonesia to become students of CSU-CMMAI-GEM Joint International Metallurgical Engineering Training Program.
In the first academic year, CSU has elaborated a study and training program for the joint CSU-CMMAI-GEM international metallurgical engineering graduate program, and well-known professors and experts from the School of Metallurgy and Environment teach theoretical knowledge related to metallurgy and materials.The college is equipped with a team of professors to provide one-on-one project guidance to students to help them get into their projects quickly.
In the second academic year, students will carry out project research and practice in six internship bases of GEM. A team of senior industry experts, professors, senior engineers, doctors and post-doctoral from GEM provide one-on-one guidance to students. Experts will guide students to carry out project research and production line practice, improve students’ professional skills and professional quality, and reserve production line equipment and production management knowledge.
In the third academic year, the professor team of CSU and GEM instructors jointly guide students to write, revise, and defend their graduation papers as well as other graduation matters.
