On December 14, 2024, 100 freshmen from the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Indonesia participated in an activity titled "Exploring the GEM-ITB-CSU Joint Research Laboratory." This event, part of ITB's Metallurgical Engineering program, aimed to showcase research and innovation in the fields of metallurgical and new energy material engineering. The new academic explorers were warmly welcomed by the research team at the laboratory.

The students began their tour by visiting the external facilities of the GEM-ITB-CSU Joint Research Laboratory, which included GEM’s iconic Green Hercules and the historical timeline wheel. They gained insights into GEM’s waste resource recovery practices and the historical development of metallurgical technologies. The students then explored the lab's signing and establishment history, construction process, talent development models and goals, and its Engineering Experiment Research Center, and research laboratories.

During the tour, the students had the opportunity to learn about over 300 advanced experimental devices and testing instruments sourced from leading nations such as Japan, the United States, and Germany. Fascinated by the equipment, the students expressed their eagerness to conduct future experiments and tests in the lab, recognizing the importance of these resources in enhancing the quality of their research papers. They also emphasized the significance of the lab's facilities in advancing Indonesia's level of expertise in new energy materials and metallurgical engineering. Additionally, the students admired the lab's two tiered academic lecture halls and eagerly looked forward to attending classes there.

At the conclusion of the tour, the students had a comprehensive understanding of the lab's facilities. They praised GEM's Chairman, Professor Xu Kaihua, expressing their admiration for his contributions to scientific and cultural development in Indonesia. This visit not only deepened their appreciation for the lab's cutting-edge equipment and innovative capabilities but also inspired their enthusiasm for scientific research and technological innovation. The students recognized the pivotal role of such top-tier research facilities in driving scientific progress and technological breakthroughs. They also acknowledged Indonesia's vast potential and opportunities for growth in the fields of new energy materials and metallurgical engineering.
