On May 22^nd, 2014, academic activities about “To Explore Chinese Ecological Civilization Road ′Urban Mine′ development” from Chinese Academy of Engineering held in Jingmen GEM Co., Ltd. Mr. Xie Kechang, the vice president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Huang Qili, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Ouyang Pingkai, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Qin Yukun, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Zhou Shouwei, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mrs. Peng Suping, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Zhang Yongchuan, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Yue Guangxi, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Peng Quan, the deputy director of Hubei Province Science and Technology Agency, Mr. Li Tao, Jingmen Municipal Committee and Jingmen high-tech Zone Party Committee Secretary, Mr. Zhang Chouhe, the deputy mayor of JIngmen City, Mr. Zhu Caikun, the CPPCC Vice Chairman of Jingmen City and director of Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, and Guangzhou Energy Research Institute, Guangdong Soil Eco Environment Institute, Chengdu Biology Institute, Guangzhou Branch of China Academy of Science, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Central South University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Southeast China University, South China University of Technology, Taiyuan University of Technology, Beijing University of Technology, Nanjing University of Technology, the experts and scholars from Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangdong Nanhai Green Recycle energy Co., Ltd, China Everbright International Limited, Wenzhou Zhongke New Energy Technology Co., Ltd, Jiangsu Yuanhe Energy Technology Co., Ltd, China Security & Surveillance Technology, Inc. Guangdong Zhengpeng Co., Ltd, and the representatives from GEM Group and GEM Subsidiaries, media representatives, Government of Jingmen, etc., over 200 people attended the Seminar.

  Before the academic seminar, the guests visited the national demonstration base “urban mine” in GEM industry park, the national circular economy education demonstration base “urban mine” museum in GEM industry park, and watched how to make the e-wastes, waste plastics, waste batteries, and waste CO/Ni resource as raw material become extra fine cobalt and nickel powder, WPC and other high-tech products.

  During academic seminar, professor Kaihua Xu, GEM Chairman delivered a warm greeting to all guests. Mr. Xie Kechang, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Engineering made a speech, he said, urban waste is huge energy and resource, which is a further mining ”urban mines”, and is also an effective supplement to our strategic resources. To realize the green development, cycle development, low-carbon development is very important to explore and make use of “urban mine” resources. Mr. Li Tao, the secretary of Jingmen National High Tech Zone Committee introduced the basic situation of developing circular economy in our city. He said, the convening of this seminar, would strongly promote the development of circular economy in our city. Our city would take this rare opportunity to put each achievements of this seminar into practice, take concrete actions to promote the scientific development of circular economy industry. 

  The academician, Mr. Chen Yong introduced the background of the conference, the development of “urban mine” is the breakthrough of the construction for ecological civilization and the direction of the transformation for the mode of development. It’s beneficial for improving the ability of society science and technology innovation, building resources saving, environment-friendly society, forming new industry with Chinese characteristics. The seminar would focus on building “urban mine” using system and how to make it play a leading role in the process of ecological civilization, depth study on the discussion of recycling technology and mode of electronic wastes, industrial wastes, agriculture and forestry wastes, city solid wastes and other kind wastes from “urban mine”.

  On academic seminar, Mr. Ouyang Pingkai, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor Kaihua Xu, the chairman of GEM made keynote report of “urban mine and biological manufacturing” and “the current development situation of China waste resource recycling industry, policy environment and the recovery mechanism construction” respectively. Professor Kaihua Xu promised in the theme report that would increase investment in recycling, and only do circular economy.

  Mrs. Li Jinhui, the executive director of The United Nations Environment Programme Basel convention of the Asia Pacific Regional Center and the professor of Tsinghua University, Mrs. Guo Huafang, the researcher of Guangzhou Energy Research Institute made report of “The prospects of China’s e-waste management policies and recycling technology” and “Fly ash resource utilization technology” respectively on the project of “e-waste, industrial waste”.

  Mr. Yao Hong, the professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Mr. Zhou Shungui, the deputy director of Guangdong Soil Eco Environment Institute, and Mr. Li Dong, the researcher of Chengdu Institute of Biology made report of “The basic research on city life garbage incineration technology and the control of metal pollutants”, “ The new technologies on city sludge resources and energy utilization” and “European city life garbage mechanical biological treatment by surprise and the suggestions for the development of organic solid waste industry in our country” respectively on the project of “City solid wastes”.

  Mr. Wu Chuangzhi, the deputy director of Guangzhou Energy Research Institute, Mr. Yuan Zhenhong, the researcher of Guangzhou Energy Research Institute made report of “The utilization of agricultural and forestry waste in new urbanization” and “ The prospects of the development and utilization of biomass resources of urban” respectively on the project of “Agricultural and forestry waste”.
