In August 2021 when Jingmen in Hubei Province was again hit by the COVID-19 Delta, the 15th Education Aid for Poor Students & Golden Phoenix Program was postponed. As of August 26, some poor students still had no sponsors. However, COVID-19 can never terminate charity. Caring for the poor students, Professor Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM decided to provide four-year education aid for 28 poor students in Jingmen, offering CNY 5,000 for each year. On September 2, the Autumn Education Aid Program for GEM employees was also completed, providing CNY 100,000 to the 55 students who are children of GEM employees in financial difficulties and who have been enrolled into the full-time universities and colleges.

Up to date, GEM has donated CNY 17 million scholarship, education aid and education fund to local governments, charity organs, universities and poor students, thus fulfilling CSR of a public company.

Philanthropy keeps a city warm

On August 26, Professor Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM received a bad news, saying the expected outbreak of COVID-19 suspended the 15th Education Aid for Poor Students & Golden Phoenix Program hosted by Jingmen Evening News. As the new semester was about to come, most of the poor students had not found sponsors. After hearing the news, Chairman Xu Kaihua immediately made instructions and designated staff to contact the Jingmen Evening News, expressing the intention to provide the education aid. After studying the Jingmen Evening News procedure of aiding poor students, GEM made the decision to sponsor all the remaining 28 poor students for four years once for all. With each student receiving CNY 5,000 for each year, GEM will donate CNY 560,000 in total, hoping to realize the education dream for each poor student.

In the 2020 outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, the Delta pandemic in the hot summer of 2021, and the flood disaster, GEM has never abandoned even one employee.

On September 2, GEM held the Autumn Education Aid for Poor Students in its industrial parks and donated CNY 100,000 education aid to the children of 55 impoverished employees, which was given to them before the new semester started. The aided families expressed their thanks to GEM for its care, support and encouragement, saying they would always remember the kindness and deem it as the power and hope to motivate them to move forward.

Up to date, the GEM Autumn Education Aid has been held for five years. The program has provided nearly one million CNY education aid to almost 300 children of impoverished GEM employees, bringing to them the care and warmth of the GEM Party Committee and Labor Union and effectively reducing the burden on these families.

Award talented people and stimulate the source of innovations

Both education aid and award for talented students are important. Following the notion of “investing in talents to stimulate their accomplishments”, in Central South University in 2018, we established the GEM Prize for Innovative Practice to award 80 innovative individuals and ten innovative groups per year for 20 years in a row. Up to date, GEM has provided the award for three years in a row, spending one million CNY awarding nearly 100 excellent innovative students and teams to stimulate innovations of talents in Central South University.

GEM awards talents for common prosperity

In December 2015, GEM donated ten million CNY to Central South University Education Foundation.

In October 2016, GEM donated one million CNY to Che Lin Education Aid Foundation, a charity organization in Gong’an County, Jingzhou.

From August 2017 to present, GEM kicked off the Autumn Education Aid Program, which has been held for five years in a row up to date, providing nearly one million CNY to almost 300 children of impoverished GEM employees.

In June 2018, GEM established GEM Prize for Innovative Practice in Central South University, spending one million CNY awarding 80 innovative individuals and ten innovative teams per year. GEM donated 20 million CNY to continue the award for 20 years in a row.  

In June 2019, GEM donated CNY 300,000 to Qian Yi Foundation, an education foundation in Tsinghua University.

In July 2020, GEM donated one million CNY to Tsinghua University Education Foundation to support its development.

In September 2020, GEM donated CNY 50,000 to Xinhua County Government, Hunan Province for renovating and building school buildings.

In 2021, GEM provided CNY 560,000 education aid to 28 poor students in Jingmen City. Each student would receive CNY 5,000 per year in their four-year university education.

In July 2021, GEM donated CNY 100,000 to Mingde School in Xinhua County, Hunan Province for building facilities in elementary education (replacing 635 sets of desks and chairs).

In 2021, GEM donated CNY 6,000 to impoverished students in Huzhu County, Qinghai and Huangji Village.

GEM will continue to spend on charity in the future and make more donations to programs in common prosperity, rural revitalization, education aid, pandemic prevention and control, flood and disaster relief, and aid for the elderly and impoverished people, so as to build the community of shared future for mankind and fulfill the CSR of a public company.
