On November 18, 2021, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, CAE publicized the result of co-opting the academicians for 2021, electing 84 CAE academicians and 20 CAE foreign associates. Professor Sun Xueliang, the fellow of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Tenured Chief Scientist of GEM New Energy Materials Super Technologies, was elected as the CAE foreign associate.

Professor Sun Xueliang is the Chief Scientist in nano-meter energy new materials from the University of Western Ontario, and the fellow of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Nowadays, Professor Sun Xueliang is the Vice Chairman of IOAEES, editor-in-chief of Springer’s Electrochemical Energy Review, and associate editor-in-chief of the Frontier of Energy Storage. Professor Sun Xueliang mainly studies the energy materials in energy storage and conversion, focusing on studies and application of lithium-ion battery, solid-state battery and fuel battery.

20 days ago, GEM was honored to invite Professor Sun Xueliang to Jingmen Industrial Park for a study tour, who was deeply impressed by the GEM’s green and low-carbon development philosophy, wonderful working environment, orderly work flow and high-level circular technology. He voiced his admiration for GEM efforts to fulfill CSR and contribute to the epidemic control in the world.

Because Professor Sun Xueliang has outstanding achievements and world-class proficiency in the field of ultra-high nickel power materials,  GEM, at the workshop on October 30, 2021, employed him as its tenured Chief Scientist in new energy material super technology. Prof. Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM issued the certificate to Professor Sun while extending a warm welcome to him. Chairman Xu said Professor Sun will help GEM realize and develop super technology in the new energy industry in the world.

From 2018 to 2020, Professor Sun Xueliang published more than 550 SCI papers that had more than 40,000 citations and H factor at 105, including Nature Energy, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, J. Am Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem., Energy & Environmental Science and other high-level journals. Also in this period, he edited four research works, wrote 20 chapters for research works, obtained 11 U.S. patent authorizations and applied for 15 patents, and published more than 140 thematic and invited oral reports at international conferences and forums.

Professor Sun Xueliang once received the Youth Scientist Research Award in the University of Western Ontario, National Senior Chief Scientist of Canada, Academic Achievement Award in the University of Western Ontario, School of Engineering, Professional Achievement Award of Canadian Society of Diverse Cultures, the Award of Chemical Research Results by the Chemical Institute of Canada, the Education Fund Award of Canada-China Professional Institute, the Supreme Research Result Award of the University of Western Ontario, and the Battery Technical Award of the International Battery Materials Association, etc.

In addition to the outstanding academic achievements, Professor Sun Xueliang has also made joint researches with the industrial community, including Ballard Power Systems, General Motors, Johnson Matthey Battery, Canada (formerly known as Phostech, producer of the famous LiFePO4) and National Innovation Center for Power Battery.
