At 9:00 a.m. on June 25, 2022, the Hubei provincial "Accelerating the construction of Wuhan's science and technology innovation center with national influence and Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Conference" was held in Wuhan. Wang Zhigang, Party Secretary and Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Wang Menghui, Secretary of Hubei Provincial Committee, and Wang Zhonglin, Governor of Hubei province, attended the meeting. The conference held a award ceremony for the 2021 Hubei Provincial Science and technology award, where the "Key Technology Project for Closed-circuit Recycling of Retired Power Lithium Batteries" jointly completed by Jingmen GEM Co.,Ltd. and Tsinghua University won the first prize of Hubei Provincial Technological Invention Award. Secretary Wang Menghui personally presented the certificate of merit to Professor Xu Kaihua, chairman of GEM.

A total of 339 projects won the 2021 Hubei Provincial Science and technology award, and only 12 projects won the first prize of the Technological Invention Award, from which the GEM’s project is the only one led by enterprises, and is also the only project of Jingmen city wining the award of technological invention.

With the research goal of high-efficiency recycling of retired power lithium batteries and their metal resources, the project has built a new energy full life cycle value chain of "waste battery recycling - raw material remanufacture - material remanufacture - battery pack remanufacture - reuse - cascade utilization", which has been selected as a typical case of comprehensive utilization of waste power batteries in the “13th Five-Year plan” by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Relying on the technical achievements of the project, GEM has successfully entered the core supply chain of international new energy power battery head enterprises and served the world's new energy vehicles from "green to green". In the evaluation of the scientific and technological achievements of the project, Hubei Technology Exchange believes that "the overall scientific and technological achievements of the project have reached the international advanced level, in which the waste power battery energy metal recovery technology and the key technology and equipment for the production of high-performance high nickel ternary cathode materials have reached the international leading level".
