For GEM, the year 2022 is the first year of GEM’s second 20-year high-quality development. To effectively make the output value exceed RMB 80 billion in the 14th Five-year Plan period, achieve the basic strategic goal, comprehensively implement the talent spirit of “invest in talents, facilitate talents’ development and jointly create a low carbon future”, pragmatically promote the implementation of the three “1,000-talent” training plans of the group in the period from 2021 to 2025, establish an “international, professional and dedicated” hard-working team, and help GEM become one of Fortune Global 500 in the future, GEM has joined hands with Tsinghua University to jointly hold the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class, and they have jointly built a super first-rate teaching team for it. They are going to establish a core talent team with global vision, global pattern, new era management ideas and outstanding leadership.

On August 11, the Opening Ceremony of the First “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class started in GEM Jingmen Park at 8 am. 68 employees of GEM who have been selected from all the employees of GEM gathered at GEM Jingmen Park as students of the “GEM-Tsinghua University” training class and they realized their dream of learning at Tsinghua University inspired by “learn again after undergoing dozens of battles” — the powerful words of Mr. Zhu Rongji, former premier of the State Council and the first honorary dean of School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University. Professor Li Jizhen as Deputy Dean of School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and Responsibility Professor of the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class, Teacher Li Jing as Director of Executive Education Center, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, Teacher Chen Feng as Inspector General of Business Development Department, Executive Education Center, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and Director of the GEM New Era Leadership Training Class Project, Teacher Lin Yali, Teacher Li Mingji, Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM, Mr. Chen Binzhang as Supervisor of GEM and students of the first “GEM-Tsinghua University” Training Class attended the opening ceremony.

Professor Xu Kaihua delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He said that the opening of the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class was a highlighted event in the history of GEM, and it officially marked the beginning of the formal implementation of the talent spirit “invest in talents, facilitate talents’ development and jointly create a low carbon future”, the in-depth intercommunication between GEM and Tsinghua University and the start of the rapid transformation of GEM into an international company. Chairman Xu Kaihua pointed out that why so many of our cadres were sent here to learn when our employees were very busy doing their production and operation work was the following three reasons: First, it was a necessary step to convert our company to an international company. The global depository receipts (GDR) of GEM were successfully issued and the company was successfully listed at Swiss Exchange on July 28, 2022. The rapid subscription of the global depository receipts showed that global investors had highly approved the green industry of GEM, which meant that the green industry of GEM had entered Europe and become an international industry. The green Chinese enterprise has been successfully listed at Swiss Exchange and it will provide a solution for the green development of the world. GEM is the first Chinese enterprise that has been successfully listed at Swiss Exchange. It regards how to provide our Chinese solution for the green development of the world as its mission. Its employees need to find the solution when they learn in the training class. They need to understand international rules and improve their global views and horizons. Second, it was necessary for GEM to deal with the international situation and the industrial challenges. The current world situation with sudden and perplexing changes we are facing is the most turbulent situation in the recent 100 years. What should we do to survive the most turbulent situation? How can we become the global game changer? What should we do to enable us to remain invincible in the industrial competition? We must find offensive power and a correct solution from our learning and thinking. When Chairman Xu Kaihua talked about his understanding of the global competition of the industry, he said: “At present, each industry of the world is vigorously expanding its production capacity and vowing to become Number One. In this situation, GEM must keep cool and improve itself in the following three aspects: First, it should improve its mindset and development determination, go back to the double-track-driven road to firmly develop “urban mines + new energy materials” and come to the correct industrial development road of “improving innovation, quality and benefits instead of production capacity”. Second, GEM should improve its management ability. It should understand the world situation, have its own strategies and tactics and know how to carry out its tasks. It should strengthen its global competitive force by improving its management. Third, it should improve its innovation ability and its endurance in innovation, have the courage to tackle the hardest tasks, dare to be the first to develop new ideas and strengthen its competitive force based on its strong technological strength.” Third, the self-development of GEM is the strategic requirement of GEM. GEM has put forward its targets to be achieved in the 14th Five-year Plan period. One of the targets is that its production output will exceed RMB 80 billion in 2026 and another is that it will become one of the Fortune Global 500 within 10 years. How should we achieve these two great targets? We need a kind of will power and we need to find a kind of energy. Where does the energy come from? How should we create the energy? These are just the things we should learn in our training class and we will awaken our power and gather our will power in our learning process.

Why should we choose Tsinghua University to learn again after undergoing dozens of battles? Chairman Xu Kaihua emphasized that first, Tsinghua University was a spirit of the era; the spirit of the university motto of Tsinghua University — “Self-Improvement and Social Responsibility” — passed from generation to generation and it was pragmatic and useful. Self-improvement is the entrepreneurial spirit used by GEM when it faces the whole world and wants to achieve its great goal. No matter how many difficulties and challenges GEM faces, it must always strive to improve itself and firmly complete its tasks. “Social Responsibility” is both our feelings toward our country and homes and our moral spirit of thinking for all the people. Now GEM is becoming an international company. The GEM people should view the world from the green low carbon development aspect. We should have correct attitudes, good morals and play positive roles. The GEM people need to have these lofty morals and feelings. Second, Tsinghua University has a scientific spirit of being realistic and pragmatic. It has cultivated numerous outstanding scientists in batches and made outstanding contributions to the development and great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. GEM needs a pragmatic scientific spirit when it applies its super technology in the unexplored zone of the industry. Second, Tsinghua University is mighty energy, and it is both Chinese energy and global energy. The aim of the training class is to find the energy, make good use of the powerful gas field and energy and help GEM achieve its great targets. Third, Tsinghua University has China’s best school of economics and management and the school is designed to cultivate leadership. School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University has China’s best teaching team. I have witnessed the deliberate high-quality plan that the teaching team of Tsinghua University has spared no effort to make for the opening of the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class. Therefore, GEM has good reason to cooperate with Tsinghua University and love Tsinghua University.

Most of the students of the training class belong to the post-1980 generation. The youngest student is 26. The average age of the students is 36. Nearly two thirds of the students have obtained doctorate or master degrees. They represent the future of GEM. Chairman Xu Kaihua raised three requirements for the students. First, the students should seriously learn and master the essence. Second, the students should seriously think and find solutions. Third, the students should seriously comprehend and integrate the Tsinghua spirit. Finally, Chairman Xu Kaihua said to all the students: “You are implementers and executors in the process of achieving the great targets of GEM, and you will surely achieve the targets. Let’s cultivate our global leadership, upgrade our global green mission and burn our green passion in the learning process. Burning! Burning!! Burning!!!

Then, Deputy Dean of School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and Responsibility Professor of the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class Professor Li Jizhen delivered a speech and he said: “Our Tsinghua University and GEM officially started to cooperate and our training class officially started today!” At the beginning of his speech, he expressed his welcome to the participation of all the students in the training class. He said: “The values, vision and mission of School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and those of GEM complement each other. Tsinghua University and GEM are naturally a perfect couple. We should cooperate, achieve win-win results and let 1+1>2.” In today’s rapidly changing society, the only unchanged thing is change. Every person needs to learn. Every talent needs to learn too. Let’s learn again after undergoing dozens of battles. In GEM, battles should be more than dozens of battles, and the GEM people should probably prepare for more battles. Professor Li Jizhen urged the students to work hard and hoped that all the students would unconsciously implant the Tsinghua spirit, the motto of Tsinghua University and the academic atmosphere of Tsinghua University in themselves. Professor Li also hoped that the students would meet both the standards of Tsinghua University and the standards of GEM so that the students would grow faster. Professor Li Jizhen hoped that all the students of the training class would use all the knowledge they learnt in the training class in the development of GEM, contribute their wisdom and strength to making GEM one of Fortune Global 500. The professor believed that School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and GEM would jointly grow, and the future of GEM would be better!

Doctor Zhang Kun, Deputy General Manager of GEM delivered a speech as a representative of the students. When the new journey started, could not hide his excitement and he said: “GEM and Professor Xu Kaihua have sent us to Tsinghua University, and Professor Li Jizhen of School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and other teachers have offered us the unusual learning opportunities. At this moment, I feel very proud and pride because we have both China’s best teachers and China’s best bosses!” Doctor Zhang Kun said that only to constantly learn could make our knowledge always useful like running water in the ever-changing world. He said: “Professor Li Jizhen taught us that we should work like a high specific surface and high-rate quick charging power battery and our personal charging and growth rates should be faster than the growth rate of the enterprise. We should also work like a long endurance power battery with a high energy density and a high cycle, and we should be constantly recharged to accumulate energy. We should continuously release our new energy brought by our new knowledge structure while we constantly absorb knowledge from Tsinghua University. We should continuously contribute our kinetic energy to making GEM, our society and our country develop better, more quickly and more stably! Finally, Doctor Zhang Kun said that they would seriously learn, diligently think, learn knowledge to meet practical needs, and they would do their best to complete all the courses of the training class with the persistent will of GEM and the spirit of the motto of Tsinghua University on behalf of all the 68 students of the training class.

“Learning is the best way to keep fresh.” Director of Executive Education Center, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University Teacher Li Jing stimulated all the students by saying: “If all the present students jointly build an enterprise well, the Chinese economy will be promising”, when Teacher Li Jing offered suggestions to the new students at an orientation activity for new students.

Then the university badge wearing ceremony began. Professor Li Jizhen and Teacher Li Jing of Tsinghua University and Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM jointly helped the students wear Tsinghua University badges at the ceremony. After they wore the badges, they officially became students of the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class, which not only represented their identities as Tsinghua University students, but also the spirit of Tsinghua University “Self-improvement and Responsibility”.

Relying on the academic accumulation of 100-year Tsinghua University, the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class has gathered high-quality teachers of all subjects and all fields, experts and scholars from the ministries and commissions of the State Council and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and senior teachers from the national best universities such as Tsinghua University and the National Defense University. The “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class has customized the course system focusing on the main courses such as politics, economy, management, innovation and culture. It will conduct a series of outward development activities and leadership training. It will carry out campus depth research and practical management simulation. It will also conduct many learning activities such as academic visits to many places, visiting well-known enterprises and exchange with famous enterprise, create multi-scenario comprehensive immersed learning experience and improve the students’ sense of gain from learning. The 68 students will successively go to Tsinghua University (Beijing), Jingmen, Jinggang Mountains, Hangzhou, Ningde, Qingdao, Shenzhen, etc. to accumulate their energy for 8 times spending 25 days.

Talents are the midstream pillar of GEM, the lifeline for the development of GEM and the core competitive force for the development of GEM. In 2021, GEM comprehensively strengthened the talent training, released a series of attractive and internationally competitive talent systems and innovation systems and grandly published three “1,000-talent” training plans to cultivate 1,000 high-level talents, 1,000 young core talents and 1,000 industrial technicians in the period from 2021 to 2025. It will create best and comfortable scientific research and innovation environments for high-level talents, attract talents from all over the world and cultivate core talents for the development of GEM. In recent years, GEM has successively made arrangements for leading talents, excellent talents, model workers, etc. to go to some organizations to learn and conduct exchange such as ECOPRO of South Korea, Kansai Catalytic Agent of Japan and Oxford University of Britain. The talent training of GEM has started to move toward the world. The official start of the “GEM-Tsinghua University” New Era Leadership Training Class is the vigorous implementation of the three “1,000-talent” training plans of GEM Group, which will effectively help the young core talent team broaden their international visions, enhance their macroscopic patterns, stimulate their green feelings, comprehensively enhance their integrated management attainment and create harmonious leadership.

The year 2022 is the first year of the second 100 years of the Communist Party of China. 20-year-old GEM will pragmatically realize the China dream of the Chinese nation — bring about a great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation — and it will undergo a great change that rarely happens. With the talent spirit of “invest in talents, facilitate talents’ development and jointly create a low carbon future”, GEM will cultivate a group of young and middle-aged managers who are farsighted, know how to operate and manage enterprises and can innovate. GEM will act as a technological leader in the global competitive pattern, play more important roles than ever before and promote its high-quality low carbon development. The sales revenue of GEM will exceed RMB 80 billion by 2026 and its operating performance will attract attention of global investors. GEM will be the first to achieve carbon neutrality and set a good example for other enterprises by 2030. It will spare no effort to promote the overall deployment of the Chinese national socialist modernization construction.
