At 9:00 a.m. on November 12, 2022, the 2022 International Conference on Enterprise-University-Institute Cooperation (Low Carbon Metallurgy) was held in Changsha, Hunan Province. At the conference, GEM, Central South University (CSU) and Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs signed the Agreement on Cooperation in Training Indonesian Students; GEM and CSU concluded the Agreement on Enterprise-University-Institute Cooperation. The signing ceremony was attended by the representative of Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs; Luo Guixiang, Member of the Education Work Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Department of Education of Hunan Province; and Prof. Guo Xueyi, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and Vice President of CSU. Entrusted by Prof. Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM, Dr. Li Qinxiang, GEM's leading talent and Deputy Director of the Research Institute of Nickel, Cobalt and Tungsten Waste Recycling and New Materials at GEM, signed an agreement on behalf of GEM. Student representatives of the 1st Indonesian Master of Metallurgical Engineering Program and representatives of QMB's Indonesian employees witnessed the ceremony.

Guo spoke highly of the model under which the Indonesian government, CSU and GEM have cooperated in training quality metallurgical engineering talents for Indonesia. He said GEM is a great company, and Chairman Xu Kaihua is a great leader in innovation practice.

CSU is the alma mater of Chairman Xu Kaihua. With a long history, the School of Metallurgy and Environment, CSU enjoys global influence in talent training and sci-tech innovation. As an alumnus of CSU, GEM attributes its development to CSU's strong support in talent training, innovation and R&D. To repay CSU, GEM set up the "GEM Innovation Practice Award" at CSU, which has rewarded nearly 100 outstanding innovators and innovation teams with 1 million each year since 2018, and will remain effective for 20 years, to fully arouse the innovation vitality of talents. On August 26, 2022, GEM reached a donation agreement with CSU, to donate 15 million yuan for the "Zhao Tiancong International Incentive Fund for Metallurgical Education" to help CSU develop metallurgical education. To further strengthen cooperation, complement each other's advantages and enhance the research strengths of both sides, GEM donated 15 million yuan on November 12 to set up the "GEM Fund for Enterprise-University-Institute Cooperation" at CSU, which will be used for technical development and talent training of both sides in such fields as the recycling of waste battery materials and the preparation of ternary battery materials.

Based on the close technological and cultural ties between GEM and CSU, under the Belt and Road initiative, in 2019, GEM, CSU and Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs proposed a new model of government-enterprise university-institute cooperation, under which the three sides would leverage respective strengths to train Indonesian masters of metallurgical engineering in materials and chemical engineering. In June 2022, the 1st Master of Metallurgical Engineering Jointing Training Program was wrapped up, gaining high recognition from the Indonesian government. To further strengthen the cooperation and exchanges between China and Indonesia, the 2nd joint training program kicked off in October 2022 as scheduled, with all the 31 new students from Indonesia in place. The Agreement on Cooperation in the 2nd Joint Training Program for Indonesian Students signed by GEM, CSU and Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs goes with the general historical trend of China and Indonesia jointly promoting new energy and green development. The program will train numerous advanced engineering talents in the fields of metallurgical engineering and new energy materials for Indonesia, and become an international highlight of China-Indonesia cooperation!
