On May 12, 2023, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs, led a delegation to GEM QMB Park. More than 100 representatives from the park, including Indonesian employees, frontline workers and engineering masters from the park, as well as GEM's leading talents and PhDs, lined up to welcome Minister Luhut and his delegation.

"This is the tree I planted together with Prof. Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM, and it is now so beautiful and lush!" In GEM QMB Park, after viewing the "presidential tree" he planted in 2022, Minister Luhut told his entourage that the park is fully in green operation. Featuring green design and green production, it is just like a public park. And it is a representative high-tech, intelligent and green project in Indonesia's history of industrial development.

"You see, Indonesia is a wealthy country with the largest nickel reserves in the world!" During visiting the world's first nickel industry museum, Minister Luhut was very delighted and proud to introduce it to his entourage.

"This is a world top hydrometallurgy research center!" At QMB (Indonesia) Laterite Nickel Ore Hydrometallurgy and New Energy Materials Engineering Technology Research Center, Minister Luhut talked to GEM's leading talents and PhDs, as well as the Indonesian engineering masters from the park, inquiring about their research projects. During the visit, he introduced the Indonesia-GEM-CSU International Master Program of Metallurgical Engineering, exchanging ideas with the graduates of the first edition of the program now working in the park. Learning that many Indonesian employees have mastered HPAL and become the mainstay in production, he was delighted. GEM has always attached great importance to international talent training. In addition to the joint master program, GEM plans to establish a first-class faculty composed of outstanding PhDs and leading talents in 2023, to train 1,000 Indonesian metallurgical engineers and senior technicians for GEM QMB Park.

Phase 1 of GEM's QMB nickel resources project (30,000 tons of metallic nickel per year), which was put into operation in September 2022, has exceeded its designed capacity by 15%. "QMB has developed very well!" Minister Luhut spoke highly of the fruitful results of the project, expressing his sincere wishes for QMB and his full confidence in the production expansion of the project - Phase 2 (43,000 tons of metallic nickel per year). Learning that the new production line will be independently tested by the Indonesian HPAL team of QMB, he praised the results of cooperation between the Chinese and Indonesian teams with delight. He expected QMB to build an integral industry chain from laterite nickel ores to cathode materials, thus becoming a world top green and intelligent manufacturer of nickel resources as early as possible.

Song Wei, President Assistant of GEM and Director of GEM Jakarta Office, Peng Yaguang, President Assistant of GEM and General Manager of QMB, Liu Wenze, Executive Vice General Manager of QMB, Jin Guoquan and Li Honghui, Vice General Manager of QMB, and Wang Yi, General Manager Assistant of QMB accompanied Minister Luhut for the visit.
