On December 23, 2024, a delegation of eight members from the Southeast Asia Alumni Association of Central South University, led by Vice President Li Yonggang, visited the GEM-ITB-CSU China-Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory. The laboratory management team warmly welcomed the distinguished guests.

During the visit, the delegation explored several highlights of GEM’s facilities, including the wood-plastic corridor, the iconic Green Hercules, and the historic wheels, expressing high praise for GEM’s significant achievements in rapidly establishing a footprint in Indonesia’s new energy sector. They also toured the exhibition hall, engineering research center, and research rooms, delving into the historical evolution of metallurgical technology. The delegation was particularly impressed by the laboratory’s state-of-the-art equipment, comprising over 300 devices sourced from leading technological nations such as Japan, the United States, and Germany. They commended GEM’s strong research capabilities, describing the GEM-ITB-CSU laboratory as one of the premier facilities in Indonesia, well-equipped to support research and testing in metallurgy and new energy materials.

The delegation also highlighted the significance of key innovations within the lab, including the central control platform, Indonesia’s first field emission electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA), and the cutting-edge, digitized three-tier R&D reactor system with capacities ranging from 10L to 1000L. Vice President Li and his team emphasized the critical role these advancements play in elevating Indonesia’s expertise in new energy materials and metallurgical engineering technologies. They further appreciated the lab’s thoughtfully designed layout, which includes dedicated office spaces and an academic exchange hall, noting that these facilities effectively support joint training initiatives for students and researchers from China and Indonesia.

Additionally, the delegation acknowledged the prayer rooms as a meaningful contribution to cultural integration and GEM’s commitment to shared growth with Indonesia. Vice President Li expressed deep respect for Professor Xu Kaihua’s leadership and openness, particularly his dedication to sharing key technologies with Indonesian students.

Following the tour, the delegation gained a clearer understanding of the lab’s daily operations and capabilities. They expressed admiration for Professor Xu’s contributions to scientific and cultural development in Indonesia, while voicing their hope that GEM will continue to innovate, strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia, and make greater contributions to the global new energy industry. The visit concluded with the Central South University alumni leaving their signatures and taking commemorative photos at the lab’s digital signature platform, marking a memorable and meaningful occasion.
