Realizing engineering technology localization in Indonesia, building highlights of Sino-Indonesia cooperation
As the "nickel capital" of the world, Indonesia boasts more than 50 million tons of laterite nickel resources that have attracted upstream and downstream enterprises in the new energy industry.
In Indonesia, guided by the investment concept of "promoting the integrated development of industry, technology and culture", GEM has built highlights of Sino-Indonesian cooperation in collaboration with Tsingshan, CATL and ECOPRO, to serve Indonesia's national strategy and grow with the Indonesian people.
Chinese technologies for the world: GEM has built a high-tech industrial park designed with the concept of "technology, intelligence and green", created an industrial model of making core materials for new energy batteries directly from laterite nickel ores, to bring Indonesia into the new energy era; GEM has built Indonesia's first world-class nickel resources industry museum, showing the inexorable trend of Chinese enterprises using green technologies to boost new energy electrification in Indonesia and new energy development in the world; it has built a world top engineering technology research center for metallurgy and new energy materials to realize engineering technology localization in Indonesia. Based on GEM's national engineering technology research center in China, QMB has invested 50 million U.S. dollars, to create a three-level technology innovation system, deploy over 100 sets of world first-class research facilities, and set up digital and intelligent engineering experimental research lines for key technology research, making Indonesia reach the world's advanced level in terms of technologies for metallurgical engineering and new energy materials.
Training advanced mining and metallurgical talents in large numbers for Indonesia
In 2019, GEM proposed an innovative model of jointly training talents along with Central South University and the Indonesian government, initiating the GEM-CMMAI-CSU International Metallurgical Engineering Master Program to train talents for the efficient use of mining and metallurgical resources, as well as the development of new energy materials in Indonesia. The first edition aimed to train 20 masters of metallurgical engineering has been completed, and the second edition aimed to train 31 masters has started. More editions are ahead to train a total of 1,000 advanced talents for the development of mining and metallurgical engineering and new energy materials in Indonesia.
The first international master program of metallurgical engineering opened on October 14, 2019, and ended on September 16, 2022 as scheduled with 20 Indonesian students successfully completing their studies.
The second international master program of metallurgical engineering opened in October 2022; and the 31 Indonesian students on the program started studying at CSU on February 25, 2023.
On September 26, 2022, Minister Luhut met with the representatives of the students on the first international master program at Indonesia's QMB Park.
