Beijing, 29 July 2026— GEM Co., Ltd. was recognized for its sustainability leadership at the 2nd Supply Chain Sustainable Development and Innovation Conference, hosted by the China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIC) and organized by the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) in Beijing.

Held under the theme “Connecting Sustainability, Co-building a New Ecosystem — ESG Compliance, Innovation, and Value Creation in Supply Chains,” the conference brought together representatives from government, industry, academia and research institutions to discuss the future of green and sustainable supply chains.

As one of the inaugural participants in the China Sustainable Supply Chain Service Platform (CSSCP), GEM received an AA-level ESG rating, the highest domestic designation, and was among the first group of companies awarded the Sustainable Value Assessment Certificate for Supply Chain Enterprises. The recognition reflects GEM's performance in integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles across its operations and supply chain.

Top AA-Level Rating: ESG Performance Earns Authoritative Recognition

The AA-level rating follows a comprehensive assessment of GEM's performance across seven ESG dimensions: organizational governance and business conduct; labour and human rights; environment and climate; product and customer responsibility; value chain responsibility management; operational resilience and innovation; and social impact.

The assessment, conducted by CQC, highlights GEM's efforts to strengthen ESG governance while supporting the development of greener and more resilient supply chains. As ESG standards become increasingly important in China's industrial policies, the recognition positions GEM among the country's leading companies in sustainable supply chain management.

Comprehensive ESG Synergy Driving Steady and Long-term Sustainability

Sustainability has become a core component of GEM's long-term corporate strategy. To reinforce this commitment, the company upgraded its Board-level Strategy Committee into the Strategy and Sustainability Committee, strengthening ESG oversight at the highest level of governance.

GEM has also established a three-tier sustainability governance framework connecting the Board of Directors, the ESG Management Committee, and ESG management teams across business units and subsidiaries.

To enhance operational integrity, the company established a dedicated Compliance Operations Management Center and implemented ten major compliance improvement initiatives. Four GEM entities have maintained ISO 37301 Compliance Management System certification for two consecutive years, while the certification scope has expanded to nine operational areas.

Advancing Sustainable Development in Indonesia

GEM has also integrated ESG principles into its international operations through its global development strategy, combining industry, technology and cultural cooperation.

At the first Global Enterprise Summit on Building a High-Quality Belt and Road Initiative, organised by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), GEM showcased two flagship Indonesia-China collaboration initiatives: the China–Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory for New Energy Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Technology and the GEM–UNU Yogyakarta China–Indonesia Future Metallurgy Institute.

In Indonesia, GEM continues to promote responsible industrial development through its subsidiaries. PT QMB New Energy Materials successfully completed assessments in four modules of the International Labour Organization's SCORE Programme, making it the Chinese-invested overseas enterprise that has completed the largest number of SCORE assessment modules.

The company has also introduced an “Enterprise + Village Company + Villagers” partnership model, supporting the establishment of village-owned enterprises that create long-term employment opportunities and strengthen local economic participation. Rather than relying solely on charitable assistance, the programme focuses on industrial empowerment and sustainable community development.

Beyond economic initiatives, GEM invests in community infrastructure by building prayer facilities, sports amenities, roads and public markets, while respecting local cultures and religious traditions.

Growing International Recognition

GEM's sustainability performance has received increasing recognition from international organisations and ESG assessment agencies.

Among its recent achievements are recognition as a Global Environment Facility Demonstration Enterprise, the World Economic Forum Award for Circular Economy Multinational, the Paulson Prize for Sustainability, inclusion in Fortune China's ESG Impact List, and four consecutive years as a constituent of the Hang Seng China A Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index (HSCASUSB).

The company's ESG performance has also improved across international benchmarks. GEM achieved a CSA score of 50 from S&P Global, placing it among the top 19% of companies in its industry, while receiving B ratings from CDP for both Climate Change and Water Security, exceeding the global industry average.

Building on the AA-level ESG recognition, GEM said it will continue strengthening its ESG management systems while working more closely with partners across its value chain.
