On July 29, 2025, a delegation led by H.E. Wang Lutong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Indonesia, visited the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP). During the visit, the delegation toured the “technology, intelligence and green” QMB Industrial Park, an Indonesian factory of GEM. Professor Xu Kaihua, Founder and Chairman of GEM, warmly received Ambassador Wang Lutong and his delegation.

Accompanied and guided by Chairman Xu Kaihua, Ambassador Wang Lutong’s delegation toured multiple facilities of the industrial park. These included Indonesia’s first world-class Nickel Industry Museum; QMB’s globally advanced Hydrometallurgical Cloud Control Center; Indonesia’s first Hydrometallurgy and New Energy Materials Engineering Technology Research Center; the nickel resource refining production line; the ternary precursor production line; and the ESG-compliant living facilities. The delegation gained detailed insights into how QMB utilizes its advanced High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) technology with independent intellectual property rights to process low-grade laterite nickel ore with a nickel content of 0.8-1.2% into world-class Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP). They also experienced firsthand that GEM makes Chinese science, education, and industry to benefit Indonesia, fostering closer people-to-people ties and composing a magnificent chapter of Chinese-style modernization in the development of the “Belt and Road” initiative through its “soft power” investment concept integrating “Technology + Culture”.

Chairman Xu Kaihua began by expressing his sincere gratitude to the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Indonesia for its support to the QMB Industrial Park. “A strong nation is the solid backing for Chinese enterprises going global,” he said, “The Embassy of China in Indonesia has always been a powerful force supporting the development of Chinese companies here. It consistently provides comprehensive services for our global expansion, which is key to the success of Chinese enterprises in Indonesia. Ambassador Wang Lutong’s visit to our industrial park conveys the immense driving force of our nation’s support for Chinese enterprises overseas.” Chairman Xu Kaihua also stated that the cluster development of Chinese enterprises, with Chairman Xiang Guangda of Tsingshan Group as the core entrepreneur, is a successful case of Chinese enterprises going global through unity.
At Indonesia’s first world-class Nickel Industry Museum, Chairman Xu Kaihua provided Ambassador Wang Lutong with a detailed report on GEM’s achievements and grand blueprint for its global strategy. This included the China-Indonesia Joint Master’s and Doctoral Program funded by GEM, the GEM-ITB-CSU China-Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory, the China-Indonesia Faculty of Future Metallurgy, and the International Green Industrial Park (IGIP). These initiatives showcase GEM’s investment concept of “integrated development of science, technology, and culture, growing together with Indonesia,” thereby promoting people-to-people connectivity between the two nations. Ambassador Wang expressed his recognition for the investment practice of integrating “industry, technology and culture” by GEM in Indonesia, especially the “China-Indonesia Faculty of Future Metallurgy” in cooperation with UNU Yogyakarta and the IGIP “Black Soil Vegetation Project”. He believes that this is an outstanding exploration and practice of Chinese enterprises’ investment and development in Indonesia, demonstrating the great responsibility of Chinese enterprises in cross-border cooperation.
At the QMB’s Hydrometallurgy and New Energy Materials Engineering Technology Research Center, Ambassador Wang Lutong engaged with Indonesian students from the China-Indonesia Joint Engineering Master’s Program who were conducting thesis research. He inquired in detail about the program’s operations and the students’ academic, work, and living conditions. He encouraged them to master their technical skills to contribute to Indonesia’s development and to become promoters of friendship and cooperation between China and Indonesia. Ambassador Wang Lutong also took a group photo with the China-trained Indonesian engineering master’s students.
Finally, Ambassador Wang Lutong’s delegation visited the QMB employees’ living area. They toured the QMB’s ESG-compliant living facilities, including the basketball court, fitness center, and library, experiencing firsthand the comprehensive living support and world-benchmark ESG practices that QMB provides for its Chinese workforce.

During the visit, Ambassador Wang Lutong highly praised GEM’s outstanding contributions to talent cultivation and scientific and cultural exchange between China and Indonesia. He pointed out that GEM is an excellent representative of Chinese enterprises “going global” with a “Technology + Culture” model. He encouraged GEM to ensure the steady and long-term success of this “soft power” investment concept, promoting people-to-people connectivity with Indonesia while pursuing investment and development. Ambassador Wang Lutong affirmed that the Embassy of China in Indonesia will, as always, provide comprehensive support and guarantees for enterprises expanding overseas.
This inspection tour by Ambassador Wang Lutong and his delegation brought the “spring breeze and strength of the motherland” to Chinese enterprises abroad. It reflects the nation’s strong support for companies to “go global” to seize opportunities and seek development, injecting new momentum and vitality into GEM’s overseas growth.
