The 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (hereinafter referred to as "COP28") was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 30 to December 12, 2023. During the conference, as a pioneer of the green cycle concept and a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), GEM actively participated in activities related to the meeting and effectively promoted global sustainable development.

As a landmark annual event in addressing the climate change crisis, the two-week COP28 Conference, under the theme "Unite, Act, Deliver", for the first time conducts a global inventory of the achievements of the Paris Agreement and seeks consensus on issues such as accelerating clean energy development, phasing out fossil fuels, and accelerating developing countries' guaranteed access to financial support and green technologies. In addition, government officials from more than 160 countries, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), leaders of new energy, the oil and gas industry companies participated in COP28 to discuss the challenges posed by climate change.

On December 9, 2023 Dubai time, the Energy Foundation and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) hosted a corporate day dedicated to the COP28 Entrepreneurs' Initiative: Green Innovations for Economic Development, Energy Transition and Climate Security at the China Pavilion in Dubai World Expo City. The event has gathered global business leaders, including Zhu Yunlai, Visiting Professor of Management Practice at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, and former President of China International Capital Corporation; Fu Chengyu, former Chairman of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation; Richard Neuville, President and CEO of Resources for the Future (RFF) Institute; and Wang Shi, Founder of Vanke Group, to discuss four key topics in low-carbon transition and technological innovation for global enterprises. The participants had an in-depth discussion on four key topics in low-carbon transition and technological innovation for global enterprises. Zhang Yuping, Vice President of GEM and Chairman of Wuhan Power Battery Recycling Technology Co., Ltd., and Zhang Wei, Deputy General Manager of GEM Group, participated in the meeting to share GEM's story in the process of China's response to climate change.

During the event, Deputy General Manager Zhang Wei participated in the forum themed "Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Corporate Carbon Accountability: From Ambition to Responsibility, the Path for Enterprises to Achieve Zero Emissions", sharing GEM's practical cases and carbon accounting research results from the Group's carbon emissions accounting to research on refining its product carbon footprint, and demonstrating the company's all-round green practices in recycling industry scale, market share, innovation and R&D, energy management, as well as the positive contributions it has made in the field of recycling economy towards driving global green technology innovation and low-carbon transformation. Zhang Wei, Deputy General Manager of GEM, said that GEM has endeavored to implement the company's "Dual Carbon Goal" and actively carried out various energy-saving and emission-reducing measures, with a 12% year-on-year reduction in carbon emission intensity by 2022. Through the global layout of the resource recycling industry, the company's comprehensive utilization of waste resources by 2022 will reduce carbon emissions by more than 880,000 tons.

In a special session presentation of the China Electric Vehicle Association, Dr. Zhang Yuping introduced businesses from the entire life cycle value chain of power batteries at the event entitled "Win-Win Cooperation, Accelerating the Transformation of Global New Energy Vehicles, Dialogue on New Energy Vehicles and Supply Chain in China and Europe". He said that the recycling of decommissioned power batteries can solve the contradiction between resource scarcity and environmental pressure in the new energy industry, which is conducive to improving the core competitiveness of new energy vehicles, batteries and upstream material manufacturers, and helps to improve the overall level of the green, low-carbon and recycling industry chain. In order to meet this goal, Dr. Zhang Yuping called for a long new energy industry chain, from the perspective of green design, green manufacturing, green consumption, to strengthen the country, the new energy industry chain division, and the cooperation between the green industry chain, which will promote the globalization of the new energy industry.

Throughout this conference, GEM has shown the world that as a pioneer in urban mining and a promoter of the world's new energy industry, it has achieved innovative results and made outstanding contributions to sustainable development by reducing pollution and carbon reduction, reducing the dependence of the new energy industry and the plastics industry on raw materials and reducing carbon emissions in the product life cycle through industry practices. In the future, GEM will actively practice the national dual carbon strategy, continue to fulfill corporate social responsibility with concrete actions, seize industry opportunities, promote technological innovation and contribute better environmentally friendly solutions to the global response to climate change.
