On January 14, 2023, the shipment ceremony of the first 1,200 tons of nickel metal MHP in GEM's Indonesia QMB Nickel Resources Project (QMB Project) was held at Terminal 8, Labota Port, PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Present were distinguished guests such as Rubyantara, Director of Morowali Customs, Central Sulawesi; Tri Haryono, Head of the Port Authority of Morowali; and Irsan Widjaja, Operational Director of IMIP, as well as Wu Guangyuan, Supervisor of GEM; Peng Yaguang, President Assistant of GEM and General Manager of QMB; Cai Jinjin and Yin Qinhua, both of Executive Vice General Manager of QMB.

At 10:28 a.m., the first 1,200 tons of nickel metal MHP reached the terminal and was ready for shipment. Peng Yaguang, President Assistant of GEM and General Manager of QMB, announced the start of the shipment of MHP products in QMB Project. This marks that GEM's independently designed QMB Project has been put into operation successfully, completed production expansion and commissioning as scheduled, and is moving towards the new stage of reaching the full capacity. The project will produce 5,000 tons of nickel metal MHP in the first quarter of 2023 and 25,000 tons throughout the year. This is an important milestone for the company to realize nickel resources guarantee, as well as the remarkable achievements of the company in promoting the integrated development of industry, technology and culture, and building a highlight in Sino-Indonesian cooperation!

As the "nickel capital" of the world, Indonesia boasts more than 50 million tons of laterite nickel resources that have attracted upstream and downstream enterprises in the new energy industry. Through independent design, development and commissioning, GEM has mastered hydrometallurgy that enables efficient use of low-grade laterite nickel ores, made full use of laterite nickel resources, and fully recovered nickel, cobalt, manganese and other metals. The successful operation of QMB Project represents that GEM has broken the industrial blockade, and opened up a road of hydrometallurgy development with courage and tenacity.

The concept of "technology + intelligent + green" was integrated into QMB Project at the moment the foundation stone was laid in Sulawesi. QMB Project created the world's first nickel industry museum, which will introduce the century-long history and glory of nickel resources to visitors from around the world, and become a brilliant brand of IMIP. Rubyantara, Director of Morowali Customs, Central Sulawesi, hailed QMB as the best enterprise in Sulawesi he had ever seen. The establishment of the engineering research center of hydrometallurgy engaged in industrial R&D, talent training, analysis and testing, and academic exchange has boosted the massive training of Indonesian hydrometallurgy engineering talents, as well as the global development of Indonesia's technologies for the metal smelting and preparation of new energy materials. The Indonesian government acclaimed QMB Project as a model project for "Belt and Road" cooperation equivalent to Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail, and demonstrated it to the world at the G20 summit.

In 2023, Phase 1 of QMB Project (30,000 tons of nickel metal per year) reached its full capacity, and Phase 2 (43,000 tons of nickel metal per year) was sped up, providing a strong guarantee for the rapid development of GEM's new energy materials industry, and solidifying the foundation for global new energy cooperation. 1,200 tons of nickel metal MHP are about to be shipped, and in the near future, more nickel resources will go global from QMB Park, Morowali, Sulawesi, Indonesia!
